Honduras moves into Regenerative Luxury Tourism to attract meaningful investments
The stunning shores of Tela, Honduras, set the stage for a landmark gathering of tourism leaders, investors, and policymakers during the Honduran Tourism Investment Forum, hosted at the prestigious Indura Beach & Golf Resort, a Curio Collection by Hilton. The event, organized by CAF – the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean in partnership with UN Tourism, showcased Honduras’ remarkable potential as a destination for sustainable and regenerative tourism investment.

High-level representatives from government and international organizations attended, including Yadira Gómez, Minister of Tourism of Honduras, Vice Minister Luis Chévez, and leaders from the National Investment Commission, Ministry of Finance, and other governmental bodies. The forum also welcomed Ministers of Tourism from El Salvador and Colombia, fostering regional collaboration and dialogue on sustainable tourism strategies.

Héctor de Castro, Chairman of Regenera Luxury, represented the organization and delivered a keynote address emphasizing the scientific and values-based approach behind the REGENERA LUXURY, introduced by UN Tourism as the first global seal and management system for regenerative luxury hotels and retreats. Mr. de Castro highlighted that true regenerative luxury goes beyond sustainability, creating positive, measurable impacts on people, planet, and profits, ensuring that tourism development is both responsible and transformative.

The forum also featured presentations on Honduras’ investment landscape, including the launch of the Honduran Tourism Investment Guide by Óscar Rueda, Director of Sustainable Tourism at CAF. The guide outlines legal frameworks, financial mechanisms, and strategic opportunities for public and private investors, from developing world-class hotels and resorts to preserving cultural and natural heritage sites such as Copán, Tela, Trujillo, and La Mosquitia.

During the event, Viviana Casco, CAF’s representative in Honduras, highlighted the country’s exceptional tourism potential and the importance of investments that combine profitability with environmental and social responsibility. She stated:
“Honduras has enormous potential to become a model of sustainable tourism in Central America. This guide is an essential tool to attract investments that respect natural and cultural heritage while generating inclusive economic opportunities for local communities.”
CAF reinforced its commitment to sustainable tourism in Latin America, offering financing instruments such as structured loans for enabling infrastructure, partial guarantees for large projects, specialized credit lines for SMEs, and partnerships to support private hotel development.

The forum included a presentation of the Tela Bay Master Plan and a tour of Indura Beach, demonstrating the potential for integrating regenerative practices into luxury hospitality. Moderated by UN Tourism, the event highlighted the growing global emphasis on sustainability, social impact, and innovation in tourism.
