Regenera Luxury is delighted to officially welcome CASA 1800 HOTELS to its global network of certified regenerative luxury hotels and retreats. With a legacy deeply rooted in history, architectural beauty, and local culture, the group has chosen to embark on the REGENERA LUXURY certification journey for all of its properties, starting with one of its crown jewels: CASA 1800 Granada.
This marks a significant milestone in the regenerative travel movement, as more boutique hotels with historic and cultural value shift toward practices that not only sustain but also restore and rejuvenate the environments and communities around them.

CASA 1800 Granada is no ordinary boutique hotel. Located in the historic Albayzín district and facing the iconic Alhambra palace, the hotel is housed in a 16th-century noble residence once belonging to the Lords of Cañaveral, Counts of Benalúa. Built over the structure of a once-important Arabic house, the building reflects centuries of layered history.
The architectural integrity of this Granada-style home has been masterfully preserved. The façade, with its Renaissance-style murals, opens to a straight-lined zaguán and an imposing central staircase. Mudejar elements remain intact in the wooden brackets and column structures that support the upper floors. During the 17th and 18th centuries, the property underwent modifications, but its soul remained untouched.
In later years, it served as the headquarters of the Migueletes, a rural military corps tracing its roots to the Santa Hermandad founded by the Catholic Monarchs in 1476. Today, this historically protected building maintains the singular charm of its origin. Each room is uniquely designed, and select areas offer majestic views of the Alhambra.
This deep cultural and architectural heritage makes CASA 1800 Granada an exemplary model of regenerative luxury.

The CASA 1800 group’s decision to initiate the Regenera Luxury certification for all its properties reflects an alignment with Regenera Luxury Criteria and regenerative tourism values. This approach moves beyond traditional sustainability by focusing not only on reducing harm but on generating positive environmental, social, and economic impacts.
At Regenera Luxury, we believe that true luxury lies in contributing to the regeneration of ecosystems, local culture, and community wellbeing. CASA 1800 HOTELS is a living example of this ethos—preserving historic architecture, prioritizing local sourcing and craftsmanship, and cultivating immersive experiences that reconnect guests with place, heritage, and people.

According to Spain’s Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, the country received 94 million international visitors in 2024, setting a new record (Ministerio de Turismo de España). These travelers generated €126 billion in spending, reinforcing tourism’s role as a key pillar of the Spanish economy, contributing 12.3% to the national GDP.
Andalusia, home to CASA 1800 Granada, welcomed 13.5 million visitors in the same year, an 11.5% increase over 2023, according to the Junta de Andalucía. Granada remains one of the top cultural destinations in the region, with the Alhambra being the most visited monument in Spain—receiving over 2.6 million visitors annually (Hosteltur).
Yet this growing popularity has prompted calls from regional authorities, industry leaders, and academia—including Les Roches Marbella, one of Europe’s premier hospitality schools—for a strategic shift towards more responsible and regenerative tourism models.

On a landmark day for regenerative hospitality in Spain, Héctor De Castro, Chairman of Regenera Luxury and global advocate for regenerative tourism, visited CASA 1800 Granada to lead the official on-site audit as part of the group’s certification process.

He was welcomed by Francisca García, CEO of CASA 1800 HOTELS, who guided him through the restored spaces of the historic property, sharing the values, challenges, and vision that drive the group’s commitment to excellence and cultural preservation.
“CASA 1800 Granada is not just a hotel—it is a living legacy. What Francisca and her team have achieved here is truly remarkable. This is exactly the kind of project that defines the future of regenerative travel,”
— Héctor De Castro, Chairman, Regenera Luxury
For her part, Francisca García expressed her satisfaction and pride in joining the movement:
“At CASA 1800, we have always believed that true luxury is rooted in authenticity, respect, and responsibility. Being evaluated under the Regenera Luxury framework is both an honor and a natural evolution for us,”
— Francisca García, CEO, CASA 1800 HOTELS

The audit included a evaluation of the hotel’s architecture, use of local suppliers, community relationships, cultural programming, environmental practices, and guest experience design. The visit ended with a symbolic photo in the hotel’s central courtyard—under the mudejar wooden beams and next to a centuries-old fountain—capturing a moment that unites history with the future of hospitality.
This encounter not only marked the beginning of the certification journey but also set a powerful precedent for how boutique hotels and global regenerative organizations in Granada can collaborate to preserve heritage while nurturing regeneration.

Granada is just the beginning.
CASA 1800 HOTELS plans to certify all of its properties through Regenera Luxury, building a blueprint for group-wide transformation rooted in regeneration. This strategic move also positions the brand as a pioneer in the luxury segment—one that doesn’t simply adapt to evolving consumer demands, but leads by example.

According to a 2024 report from Statista, over 76% of luxury travelers worldwide now prefer hotels with strong sustainability and community ethics, and more than 40% are willing to pay a premium for those that engage in regenerative practices.

The excellence of CASA 1800 Granada has not gone unnoticed.
The hotel has been featured in leading publications such as:
These accolades are a testament to the hotel’s ability to bridge history, elegance, and modern-day luxury. But now, with its commitment to regenerative hospitality, CASA 1800 is also setting a new benchmark for purpose-driven excellence.

While sustainable tourism focuses on minimizing harm, regenerative tourism actively seeks to restore, renew, and leave a positive footprint. This involves preserving biodiversity, enhancing cultural identity, empowering local communities, and designing travel experiences that contribute meaningfully to the health of people and the planet.

As highlighted in UN Tourism’s 2023 Global Roadmap, regenerative tourism is poised to become one of the fastest-growing segments in the hospitality sector, especially in heritage-rich destinations.
Organizations as UN Tourism, World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance or GSTC, also promote the transition from “do less harm” to “do more good,” encouraging hotels and destinations to adopt deeper community engagement and landscape restoration strategies.
CASA 1800 Granada embodies these values by conserving architectural heritage, maintaining traditional aesthetics, and offering culturally rooted guest experiences. The restoration process emphasized the use of local materials, collaboration with Granada-based artisans, and minimal structural interventions to maintain authenticity—principles aligned with Regenera Luxury’s regenerative pillars: Cultural Continuity, Ecological Health, Community Empowerment, Conscious Hospitality, and Holistic Wellbeing.

This approach not only elevates the guest experience but also creates circular value for local economies, helps conserve intangible cultural assets, and reduces the environmental impact of tourism.

In joining Regenera Luxury, CASA 1800 HOTELS sets a standard for boutique hotels worldwide: that luxury is no longer defined merely by exclusivity or aesthetics, but by the positive legacy a property leaves behind—for its community, its culture, and its ecosystem.
