UNEP and European Union Strengthen Environmental Cooperation Amid Geopolitical Challenges

April 4, 2025

In an era of mounting geopolitical complexity, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the European Union (EU) are reinforcing their partnership to drive global environmental progress.

Brussels, April 2025 — Regenera Luxury strongly welcomes the announcement of enhanced cooperation between the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the European Union (EU), aimed at driving urgent global environmental action amid growing geopolitical complexity.

The recent high-level dialogue in Brussels between UNEP Executive Director Inger Andersen and European Commissioner Jessika Roswall marks a significant milestone for advancing a competitive circular economy, water resilience, climate and environmental security, and innovative sustainability solutions worldwide.

At Regenera Luxury, we are proud to align with and support these shared ambitions. The strengthening of multilateral cooperation between UNEP and the EU underscores the importance of unified, transformative action—a core principle of our own work with regenerative luxury hotels, retreats, and holistic centers across the globe.

“We wholeheartedly applaud UNEP and the EU for this bold step towards reinforcing global environmental leadership,” said Hector De Castro, Founder and Chairman of Regenera Luxury. “At Regenera Luxury, we believe that a new definition of luxury must be one that nurtures the health and vitality of the planet and its people. This partnership reflects the kind of systemic collaboration required to accelerate a truly regenerative future across all industries, including tourism and hospitality.”

As an international community of regenerative leaders, Regenera Luxury is deeply aligned with the key outcomes of the dialogue:

  • Driving circular design and responsible material use across the built environment.
  • Promoting water resilience and ecosystem restoration.
  • Supporting science-driven, data-led innovation in sustainability.
  • Advocating for inclusive and equitable transitions that leave no one behind.

We are particularly inspired by the commitment of both UNEP and the EU to finalize a legally binding agreement on plastic pollution, advance the Science-Policy Panel on Chemicals, Waste, and Pollution, and support a robust science-policy interface — priorities that resonate strongly with Regenera Luxury’s own certification standards and regenerative frameworks.

As Europe and the world prepare for UNEA-7 later this year, we encourage all stakeholders — public and private — to embrace this momentum and deepen their own contributions to planetary regeneration.

A Call to Regenera Luxury Community

To our Regenera Luxury members and partners: this is the time to lead by example. Let us continue integrating circularity, ecological regeneration, and social equity into our operations and guest experiences. By doing so, we can help shape a new paradigm of luxury — one where environmental restoration and human well-being are inseparable.
